Well if you do and it’s for a non-violent, misdemeanor crime then December is your lucky month. Santa Clara County is running and amnesty program this month that will allow you to stay out of jail. I used the program last year to convince a few fugitives to themselves in. All you have to do is get down to the Sheriff’s office on Younger Ave in San Jose and they will take your finger prints and issue you a new court date. The process normally takes about an hour depending on how busy they are. Under normal circumstances, if your warrant is over $5,000.00, the Police will take you to jail and you will either have to post bond or wait and see a Judge. Under this program it does not matter how big your warrant is as long as it’s not for a felony or for any type of violent crime (assault, domestic violence, etc.)

Here is a link to the press release if you want more information.

It’s always awkward to tell someone that your a bounty hunter. As soon as I do most people me with Dog the Bounty Hunter. Because of this I normally tell people that I do fugitive recovery or, sometimes, bail enforcement. It’s not that I don’t like Dog, I actually have a lot of respect for him. He’s a convicted felon and turned his life around and has done quite well. I just don’t like to be compared to a TV show that exaggerates and sensationalizes my career. I try to portray my job as more professional then he does on his show. What I do is nothing like what you see on his TV show. In fact, most of what I do is quite boring and tedious.

It’s not all about driving around and arresting people all day as most of our arrests are uneventful. Rarely do we get in fights or have guns pulled on us. It happens but not on a daily basis. I also don’t have a mullet or carry a 2 gallon can of pepper spray around. In fact, I hate pepper spray. Every time I, or someone with me, uses pepper spray we all get sprayed and it hurts like hell. There’s nothing worse then having your eyes close up and stream of snot running out of your nose. I prefer my taser.

This is the reason why I can’t watch shows like Bounty Girls Miami, Operation Repo or anyother reality TV show that sensationalizes and exaggerates the reality of my work. I take what I do seriously and hope most people understand that difference between reality and reality TV. Ok, off to Santana Row for a drink…
